Lisa & Kenny

The wedding uniting Lisa Duncan and Kenny Duncan in marriage occurred on June 10, 2006, at six o’clock in the evening at the River Oaks Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. With only three months to plan the wedding, the coordination process was swift with the ceremony and reception location picked within one week.

In keeping with the bride’s wishes, the décor and theme of the wedding incorporated the colors cinnamon, chocolate and chartreuse. The wedding paper trousseau, which consisted of invitations, respond cards, menu card, ceremony program, and napkins were all done in chocolate and ecru color. The tone was set for the wedding, and color scheme was evident throughout many aspects of the wedding.

Lisa wore a white satin strapless dress adorned with crystals and carried a nosegay bouquet of white calla lilies, stephanotis and roses. The colors cinnamon, chartreuse and off-white were seen in various flowers, such as roses, hydrangeas, larkspur and calla lilies, and were used throughout the event. The bridesmaids wore were custom-made strapless cinnamon dresses adorned with a unique crystal brooch.

At the church, the altar was decorated with large canopy adorned with white flowers. Ten aisle arrangements of white flowers were placed down the center of the aisle. A beautiful program outlining the ceremony was given to each guest as they arrived.

The bride had her hair and makeup done at the hotel and was transported the church in a 1940’s silver cloud Rolls Royce limousine and dressed in the church’s bridal suite. The groom and his wedding party arrived in a black limousine and relaxed in the church’s courtyard. Most of the guests were transported in buses from the hotel to the mansion and those who didn’t had their cars valet parked.

After the ceremony and proceeding pictures, the bride and groom were taken to the hotel in the Rolls Royce limousine and arrive to find their guests already enjoying the cocktail reception, during which a string quartet entertained them. The staircase banister leading up the ballroom was adorned with magnificent arrangements of the wedding flowers.

Six cocktails tables with chocolate linens and a flower centerpiece surrounded the staircase banister. Upon signing the guest book, the guest viewed the large seating chart to find their seating assignment. The seating chart was surrounded by cinnamon and off-white flowers and bordered by a large moss filled tray. On either side of the guest book table were two portraits, one of the bride in her dress and the other of the couple with a space for guests to fill in their well wishes. A unique ice sculpture with the couples monogram was placed on the bar.

Each of the nineteen tables had an elaborate gold candelabra centerpiece over-flowing with floral arrangement of the wedding flowers. In addition to votive candles, each table had a wine bottle labeled with the names of each table guest, a silver chiffon sachet filled with almonds and a white table linen with an organza overlay adorned with platinum beads, forming a diamond pattern. The pattern was duplicated on the sash, which was placed over the stark white stretch chair covers. The white cotton napkins were tied with a platinum organza ribbon and placed in the center of the each place setting.

The bride’s four-tiered cake, which was next to the cake along with the couple’s unique Swarovski crystal-stemmed champagne toasting goblets.

During the dinner, the band played light, jazzy background music. The guests were treated to a wonderful plated meal and paired with complimentary wine.

After dinner, the bride and groom cut the bride’s rolled fondant cake with raspberry filling. They then proceeded to the dance floor where traditional toasts were made by a playful best man, and a tearful maid of honor. The band played “At Last” for the couples first dance and “Butterfly Kisses” for the father-daughter dance. The band then kept everyone on the dance floor grooving to the smooth sounds of Motown, R&B, Pop and the Blues.

At the evening’s conclusion, the guests were escorted outside and each given a rose head to breakup and throw. The couple walked down the steps to a flurry of rose petals, kissed each other and waived goodbye to their guests before departing in an old-fashioned white 1940’s Rolls Royce limousine.
